Welcome to the Community Advisory Council page. Our intent is to communicate the activities of the Advisory Council and how it will assist the Beverly Police department and the citizens of Beverly, Ma. We meet once a month and welcome participation.

Our meetings are held at the Beverly Public Library, in the Sohier Room unless otherwise indicated.

The subcommittee on substance abuse reported that their informational brochure is complete and will be produced shortly.

There was a discussion of material that could be developed from our monthly meetings and the Citizens Police Academy which could be used for programming on BEVCAM TV.
BEVCAM also hosting a seminar in television production at their studios. The seminar takes 4 weeks and the next one will begin in early June. Officer John McCarthy and several other officers will be meeting with BEVCAM and they will be developing the programming for the Police department program. Members of the CAC were invited to attend this meeting as well. The new television show called BEVCOP will be debuting in August, on Channel 10 on Comcast services in Beverly.

Officer John McCarthy reports that he has several Police Academies are being held, and will be scheduled for next spring. He will also be holding a class at the Beverly Council on Aging and at Beverly High School. Please go to the Photo Album for pictures of our Field Day. He also offered these programs to Endicott College and Landmark School as well. The next Citizen's Police Academy is scheduled for early next year. If you are interested in attending this program, you may contact Officer John McCarthy for further details. The Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association will meet on January 21, 2010, and May 21, 2010. Ofc. McCarthy reports that he has over 40 applicants for the fall session of the CPA.

Chief Mark Ray stated he will be presenting several activities of the police department and the CAC to the National Association of Police Chiefs later this year. He also reported that we have received correspondence from the National Association of Police Volunteers inviting our participation. Further information can be found at www.policevolunteers.org.

A discussion was held on the role a volunteer would have within the Police Department. Specifics of a volunteer role will have to be identified and approved by the Police Department's Union representatives and City Hall prior to being implemented. More information on this will be presented in future meetings.

We had a discussion regarding a recent study that was conducted at the high school and junior high school. The study was focused on issues that influence behavior and learning. It was decided that a committee would be organized and would analyze these studies as they impact Policing and Law enforcement in Beverly. Further information will be forthcoming.

There was a review of the accomplishments for the year of 2009, and in review they were:

The completion of 2 service brochures for use by the Police Department when on patrol and are available at the Police Station.
The completion of several Citizen's Police Academies.
Discussions of issues as they occurred; such as marijuana law changes, fraud presentation, domestic violence presentation, high school lockdowns, license plate reader, bike rodeos, and MLEC traffic award.
The development and implementation of a comprehensive noise ordinance/motor cycle check points during the warmer months.
A recognition cookout for the Police Department.
The development and production of several BEVCAM television shows.

The year of 2010 appears to be a busy one as we look ahead. We will be examining Youth Risk Behaviors and developing programs and/or suggestions for curriculum for elementary,
junior and high school teens. Some of this data may even affect college students as well.

We will endeavor to do more telecasts in a partnership with BEVCAM TV.

A Police Explorer Post is being considered and the application to the Boy Scouts is currently under review.

Activities in Volunteers in Policing are forth coming, as well as the creation of a Police Department Foundation.

For the sake of redundancy, several issues that are currently tabled remain posted on our website.
