Committed to Our Community


Welcome to the Community Advisory Council page. Our intent is to communicate the activities of the Advisory Council and how it will assist the Beverly Police department and the citizens of Beverly, Ma. We meet once a month and welcome participation.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, OctoberNovember 13,10, 2009, subcommittee meetings are at 6:30pm
The schedule of our meetings for 2009 are the following dates:

A schedule of our 2010 meetings will be posted in the near future, and they are held at the Beverly Public Library, unless otherwise indicated.

A review of subcommittee activity was discussed. Members of the traffic subcommittee have been working on a police services brochure, and circulated the final prototype for approval.The subcommittee on substance abuse reported that they are working on an informational brochure that would help parents identify drugs, find help and contact other resources that would be of assistance to them. This brochure is ready for the press and will be produced shortly.

A variance is before the city council regarding noise reduction and how the police will handle noise violations. The variance has been passed and will be enforced. Chief Ray stated that announcements regarding the variance will be made in the media prior to enforcement. Captain Petersen discussed the advances that technology and other things such as the CAC and how it has helped the Police Department to do their job more effectively and efficiently.. There was a discussion of material that could be developed from our monthly meetings and the Citizens Police Academy which could be used for programming on BEVCAM TV.
BEVCAM also hosting a seminar in television production at their studios. The seminar takes 4 weeks and the next one will begin in early June. Officer John McCarthy and several other officers will be meeting with BEVCAM and they will be developing the programming for the Police department program. Members of the CAC were invited to attend this meeting as well. The new television show called BEVCOP will be debuting in August, on Channel 10 on Comcast services in Beverly.

Officer John McCarthy reports that he has several Police Academies planned, these are scheduledbeing forheld, theand fallwill andbe scheduled for next spring. He will also be holding a class at the Beverly Council on Aging and at Beverly High School. Please go to the Photo Album for pictures of our Field Day. He also offered these programs to Endicott College and Landmark School as well. The next Citizen's Police Academy is scheduled for September 9, 2009 fromearly 6-8next PM,year. ifIf you are interested in attending this program, you may contact Officer John McCarthy for further details. The Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association will meet on September 17, 2009, January 21, 2010, and May 21, 2010. Ofc. McCarthy reports that he has over 40 applicants for the fall session of the CPA.

Sergeant McCarthy and the Domestic Violence Advocate presented a class on Date Rape and Domestic Violence to the Committee. Chief Mark Ray stated he will be presenting several activities of the police department and the CAC to the National Association of Police Chiefs later this year. He also reported that we have received correspondence from the National Association of Police Volunteers inviting our participation. Further information can be found at www.policevolunteers.org.
